You might be asking, why am I qualified to teach you? I am qualified because I have been playing Ping Pong since I was 9, and this serve that I will teach was the serve I used to win against a player who had several years of playing experience, proving it works against skilled players. First, get a paddle. Second, find a ball. Follow these steps to make sure that your serve is not illegal: Make sure that your serve is behind the table, and inside the side boundaries of the table. Toss your ball up 6 inches or more. Make sure that the ball bounces first on your side and then on your opponent's side. Here is an image of me preparing to do the serve I am teaching.
Hold the paddle in the traditional shakehand grip, as shown in the video above. Turn your paddle slightly down, at about a 345 degree angle. Swing down diagonally at the ball. This serve is meant for intermediate to advanced level players, and even then, they should make sure to practice it before going to a tournament. I personally had to hit the ball at about 75% power compared to the power I would use to hit a smash, as the extreme spin that you will put on the ball if you hit it right will cause the ball to go less far than if you hit it flat(with no spin). The benefits of this serve is that it will cause your opponent to reach to the corner of the table and hit the ball out, or the could hit a weak shot, which will enable you to be able to hit an easy smash for a free point, or at least get the upper hand in a point. Even though this serve is hard to pull off, with practice anything is possible. If this serve is not working for you, make sure you are following the instructions correctly. If you are, make sure you have a paddle that can generate spin, not just a wooden blade without rubber. If you do have one of those, maybe just try learning a different serve.
