How to Overhand Serve in Volleyball!

There are multiple different ways to serve in volleyball, and these include underhand serves, jump serves, and the serve you will be learning how to do today: overhand serves! Overhand serving is more complicated than underhand serving, but less complicated than jump serving. When overhand serving (or just serving in general), it is important not to accidentally step on the service line, because if you do, the serve will be a violation, and the point will automatically go to the other team's score.

Next, you have to make sure you are putting in the right amount of power into your serve, because the goal is for you to serve the ball over the net with as much force as you can (without the ball going out of bounds), so the opposing team has trouble saving it. A strategy for adding power to your serve is by tensing your hand, making it more firm for impact. Start with your hand outstreched and above your head; your elbow above your ear, and then bring it forward with speed and power, moving your feet slightly forward when doing so.

Also, hit the ball when it is at its highest point so that it is more likely to go over and score. But remember to not try to get the ball too high, because then it will be really easy for the opposing team to retrieve the ball. But if the serve is closer to the net and flatter, it will be more difficult to reciprocate.

So, basically, when overhand serving, you have to throw the ball in front of you (but not in front of the line) with your non-dominant hand, and then use your domininant hand to push the ball forward, and hopefully over the net. Once you begin to master this skill, you can try to start aiming at specific different places on the court at different speeds.
