Why are Serves Important In Volleyball?

Serves are essential for playing volleyball because they start off every play of every set of every game. If a serve is powerful enough, it can score an ace! An ace means to get a point right off a serve, without having the opposing team successfully getting the ball back over the net. If one person on a team keeps on scoring serves, then they keep on getting the chance to serve until they mess up. So, scoring serves is a fast, easy way to start off a game with a head start.

Serves not only give yourself and your team a physical headstart in the scoreboard, but successful serving builds a mental headstart within a team, as well as growing confidence over each made serve. This can lead to a team's momentum, which subconsciously makes them play better because they have more confidence due to made serves. It also does the opposite for the other team, because it could intimidate them, and cause them to play worse, which will come to your team's advantage as the game progresses.

Sometimes, serves can be the deciding factor for wether your team wins or loses a volleyball game, and it is important to master it. Because every member of every team has to serve at some point during the game, you might as well learn how to serve at your best!!
