How to Draw Realistic Hands: Skills Instructions

Intro: How to Draw Hands

When drawing hands, you have to have, most importantly, patience. You will not get it right the first try, and it's fine, because you can keep trying. My steps and pictures are just for reference to show you how to start out. You do not need to copy mine, becuase your reference will be different, as I used my own hand. The important thing is to keep trying and to do repetition of skills, as it builds up muscle memory and confidence. So, when drawing, remember that it's just for fun, and even if you think that your drawing is bad, I can always find a laugh in every drawing I think is bad.

Instructions:

1. First, you have to get a model of a hand. It can be off the internet, or just your non-dominant hand.

2. You start off by just lightly sketching out the shapes of your hand like so.

First Step: Light Sketch;

3. You then start adding finer detail to your drawing. See my example below for reference.

Second Step: Finer Detail

(Includes creases of the hand, fingernails, and slight shading)

4. After finer detail, you slightly ink the drawing, to make it pop a bit more

Third Step: Lightly Inked

5. Now, you shade and give final detail to your drawing to make it look realistic.

Fourth Step: Shaded

Great Job! You drew a hand with only 4 steps! If you had trouble, go back to the step you tripped on, and double check. You can also check the resources on the next page, or look at the time-lapse video of me drawing it below!
